The P4SPR from Affinité Instruments is a portable SPR instrument designed to study the affinity and specificity of molecular interactions, mainly between biomolecules such as proteins and DNA. With an additional KNX or KNX2 module, information about the kinetics of these interactions can be acquired as well.
The P4SPR relies on thin film sensors (Kretschmann configuration), meaning a thin layer (50 nm) of gold is directly coated onto a glass prism. This enables measurements with complex media, such as serum.
Furthermore, it uses the wavelength interrogation mode with polychromatic light, in contrast to the angular interrogation with monochromatic light. The P4SPR therefore uses fewer moving parts, making it highly robust, low maintenance and affordable.
As an SPR instrument, it inherits all the usual benefits of traditional, larger SPR instruments, such as the label-free monitoring of biomolecular interactions, real-time data monitoring and the acquisition of kinetics information (KNX or KNX2 module required).
The P4SPR uses 4-channels to measure SPR and is available with either 2 or 4 injection ports.
The 2-port configuration of the P4SPR uses an S-shaped sample channel microfluidic design for its sample port, enabling triplicate measurements for injected samples.
The 4-port configuration uses the same layout (straight line) for all 4 of its microfluidic channels, which can be used for sample + reference testing or to compare 4 different samples simultaneously.
The P4SPR – Portable, flexible and easy to use
The P4SPR has a small form factor and is lightweight, making it highly portable. You don’t have to bring your samples to the P4SPR, you can take your P4SPR to your samples. Only a Windows Laptop or PC with and the free P4SPR control software are required for operation. The quick and easy setup as well as operation also make the P4SPR the ideal SPR instrument for educational environments.
Both, the microfluidic cells as well as the sensor chips are reusable, decreasing the amount of consumables needed. The sensor chips are available as either bare glass prisms or as gold coated chips, either with or without pre-applied surface chemistry. With the P4SPR you can go from machine startup to capture Protein/DNA/etc. immobilization to getting your results in minutes to hours, saving a lot of time compared to other biological assays such as ELISA.
The open design of the P4SPR allows for an easy integration in-line with other instruments.
