A manual evaluation of polydisperse water samples with a large number of various organisms, is a highly time-consuming procedure. By the means of software categorization and classification, this process gets not only much more convenient, but also with significantly increased accuracy.
There are two different methods to archive this: Either by an algorithm, which sorts particles by recognizing various shape and structure patterns, or, by equipping organisms with specific fluorescent tags. These tagged organisms will get excited by a laser while measuring and emit a characteristic signal, identifying the type of organisms.
